User research and product development
The purpose
Facilitate the use of small containers to reduce pressure, discomfort and pain in the
joints so that all people can once again enjoy their intimate moments when putting on makeup.
We want all those people who have given up this activity due to degenerative diseases to use their favorite products again with pleasure and pleasure.
14% of the Mexican population suffers from a joint disease, with 3 out of 4 people being female. Some of these cases in Mexico have occurred in people as young as 12 years old. (Amepar, s.f.) In Mexico, 4 out of 10 women wear makeup, using all types of makeup, from very simple to the most complex. (Chance, 2020)

The process
Our target market is those people who suffer from arthritis and who apply makeup at least once a day, but have had to modify their routine due to the pain that the disease entails on their hands. They look for comfortable makeup that does not require a lot of force or fine movements to manipulate it.
The first stage of our project was the evaluation of the types of makeup and the types of comfortable closures used by people with or without arthritis problems. We also evaluate the different routines they usually have to identify the various products they use and how many times they do it.
Anthropometric factors were key to the development of this product because the intended users do not usually fall into the standards or studies. Identifying what types of requirements they needed greatly influenced the type of closures, shapes and materials that we had to include.
The function requirements for our design are:
1. Facilitate the opening and closing of small makeup containers
2. Packaging that makes it easy to open
3. Large support area for comfortable support
4. Sufficient area to open and close the container
5. Shapes that reduce fine movements (e.g. rotation) with the hand.
6. Shapes that allow alternative gripping or manipulation.
The usage requirements for our design are:
1. Comfortable to hold
2. Comprehensible way to open
3. Little force to open
4. Texture on the grip or support
5. The size supports the hands and is transportable
6. Flexible or not so rigid material
The design
Bondi has a large holding area to provide comfortable support for the hands, as well as an opening system with magnets to avoid twists or movements that cause damage to the joints.
In addition, Bondi favors different grip and use alternatives that reduce, when closing and opening, turns and fine hand movements.
The materials used are:
Silicone: Allows better grip and support in the hands to avoid injuries due to slipping.
Rigid plastic: Prevents the object from breaking when a lot of force is applied or if it has a strong impact.
The closure system is made with magnets to eliminate the turning mechanisms that often cause injuries due to the pressure exerted.
The purpose is for the object to open by pulling the lid vertically, without the need to apply excessive force and keeping the product safe and spill-free.
The final requirements for our design are:
1. Prismatic shapes that reduce fine movements when closing and opening
2. Large clamping area
3. Rounded edges
4. Systems that do not require fine movements (avoid threads)
The impact
Bondi can facilitate one of the most common activities in our daily lives, which is putting on makeup. Degenerative diseases often stop people from being able to use products that have not been designed for them.
We seek that with Bondi, the interaction we have with everyday products becomes more suitable for all people.
